Avoid objects in design area for topology optimisation
I'm trying to do a topology optimisation for a part.
I have a design space that I want the part to be designed within and I have a few areas that I require material and a few other objects that need to be avoided.
I know how to ensure that there is material in the required areas however I'm struggling with avoiding the objects within the design space.
I initially tired to subtract these components from the design space in my CAD software however this produced a design space that wouldn't mesh. Instead I tried manually removing the areas that I didn't want material with more simple shapes however this resulted in an undesirable result as the solution would always push up against the boundary of the design space. This means that the choices that I made directly impacted the output which I didn't want.
Is there a way that I could just define a bounding box and tell the simulation to avoid all the parts within?

Unfortunately this only works when using the draw constraint which I am not
In that case move those areas to different component and make it Non-design.

maybe a picture of your part and results that you don't like help explain the situation? Are you considering Altair Inspire too?0

Hi Tom,
May be you can use the obstacle option available in topology optimization.
Thanks

Unfortunately I can’t give photos of the parts that I’m describing but I think my explanation is clear enough.
I just want a bounding box for the design space. Within this box there’s some components that need to be avoided. How can I tell the simulation to avoid these obstacles?

Thank you. I don’t know why I didn’t consider this. I’m only used to using non-design components when I need material there but I didn’t consider using it when I can’t have material thereRajashri Saha_20525 said:In that case move those areas to different component and make it Non-design.

Hi Tom,
Sometime this happens, unless someone point which we later feel as very simple.
If this answers your query, mark it as correct so it will go to solved state. Now this is in unresolved state.
Thanks
