Lattice Optimization Mesh Size Dependency

Hi everyone,

 

I am working on a project involving performing a lattice optimization in OptiStruct and then hopefully 3D printing the final component.

 

Since manufacturability dictates a fairly large lattice unit cell size, I was wondering if this cell size is always exactly equal to the size of the hexa or tetra finite element? For the sake of accuracy, I would obviously prefer to use considerably smaller elements for the optimization process.

 

If this is the case and I have to use the larger elements, would it perhaps be beneficial to use quad elements instead of linear ones?
