Data shifting in Monarch report design

Hello,

I am trying to extract data from a pdf in Monarch report design. While trapping fields and extracting data into columns, I notice the data is shifting (in this case, 7 spaces to the right) so that I cannot successfully trap all the relevant dat I want in a column without overlapping another trapped column.

Please help....very frustrating.

Thanks,

Mark Oldani

This is a common issue when dealing with PDF data and how it is rendered.  I am going to assume you are using Monarch Complete (Data Prep Studio), but there are similar options in Classic as well.

First, have you looked at the PDF document options:

    https://help.altair.com/monarch/help/Customizing_PDF_Import_Options_in_DPS.htm

There are several options you can play with to try and get your data to line up correctly.  I like to change the PDF engine to something other than 4.5 and select the Monospaced option.  I also try playing with the stretch options.  Usually this will get you close enough.

If you cannot get the data to always line up correctly, then check out how to use a floating trap:

    https://help.altair.com/monarch/help/Using_the_Floating_Trap.htm

It references Monarch Classic but the same options appear for DPS.

Are you able to share your PDF file?  Sometimes others may be able to help point you in another direction or give more specific instructions on how to capture your data.

    Good Luck.

Thanks for this, Chris. Any idea if there is a way to shift entire pages x number of spaces in one direction or the other? Specifically, my document is lined up on pages 1 and 2, then from page 3 onward, everything shifts 7 spaces to the right, overlapping other traps. Anything like in a word doc where I can highlight fields and backspace everything back in line?

Unfortunately, I deal with a lot of PII so I cannot share my file.

    Thanks very much, nonetheless,

    Mark
