Combining Motionview with environmental effects

Hi,

I am working on a project to study the simulation of marine operations and I am curious to know whether motionview can be combined with for example twin activate to study the impact of environmental effects such as hydrodynamic forces and current or wind. I understand that I can use either model exchange or co-simulation? How will the model in motionview need to be modified? For example, if I have a boat where the installation of a monopile will be taking place, and I model the environmental effects using Twin activate, how is the procedures to input the environmental effects on the boat? Do I ground the boat in motionview?

    Hi Linn,

MotionView can be coupled with Twin Activate either natively or via an FMU.

On the first approach you can directly couple the models in the Twin Activate environment.

Here is a tutorial that shows the required steps to achieve this on both ends of the software.

    Tutorial: Co-Simulation with MotionSolve (altair.com)

More info and details can be found in the Twin Activate extended definition, under Chapter 13 "Co-Simulation with Multi-body Simulation"

    -----------------------------------------

The other way would be to build your model  (that models the enviromental effects) in Twin Activate and then export it as an FMU. This FMU can be then deployed into MotionView. (FMU can be either of type Model Exchange or Co-Simulation as you already mentioned)

Here is a tutorial regarding this workflow:

MV-7011: Co-Simulation with Activate via Function Mockup Interface (FMI) (altair.com)

and more info here FMU (altair.com)
