How does Optistruct choose the initial (guess) value of a DV?

Greetings,

I am performing a free-size optimization of an insert. The thickness of the insert is chosen as the design variable. A minimum and maximum value are set during the DV definition as sown below:

However, what value of the thickness does Optistruct choose as the initial guess value for the first iteration?

Probably, thickness which you used to define PSHELL property: T

It depends on a few factors.

Usually it is like gantovnik mentioned, but it also depends on your responses and your min and max thickness in the freesize panel.

For example, if you add a volume fraction constraint of 30%, then it will force the first iteration to the corresponding thickness for the given volume.
