License checkout failure with ultraFluidX and ALM

Hi all, we have been running ultraFluidX on a multi-GPU desktop PC without any issue.  The license server is remote, with a known address and port number.  Now we want to run on a small GPU cluster, but we run into an error while attempting to checkout the required Altair Units.  We can ping the license server, and we know that the units are available.  Can anyone tell us what the following returned error statement actually means?  This seems to be the point of failure in the startup process:
