The thickness of contact has changed out of expect

I have defined a bondstatus of my contact model, the value was 0 at the initial state and then was 1 all the time, but with the passage of time, the thickness of cylinder has changed, I can't understand why this happen. I am sure that no other values assign on bondstatus.

So the thickness of cylinder is scaled by the contact vector, and what value determines the magnititude contact vector?

Because in the EDEM helps, I saw contact vector displays an equal sized cylinder between all elements selected, so the thickness should be the same I think.

Hi Raheem,

With the contact vector as a display attribute the thickness is scaled by the contact force magnitude and the range of the thickness is determined from the min and max contact force magnitudes.

It looks like in your case the contact force magnitude minima and maxima are evolving over time.

Because in EDEM bonding v2 when I colored with bondstatus, it always in the same thickness, and in the api version, sometime behaved like what I meet. So I am confused.

Did the contact force mgnititude you mean Summariethe total contact normal force magnititude and tangential force magnititude of all the contact model used in the simulation？

Hi Raheem,

The bond thickness and colour are independent of each other.

With the contact vector as the display attribute the thickness is proportional to the total magnitude of the force of the contact - a simple summation of the contact forces from all contact models acting in this contact is made and the magnitude of the resulting force is used to linearly scale the thickness. The limits of the thickness are determined from the minimum and maximum contact force magnitude in this time step so the bond thicknesses can fluctuate if the minima and maxima change even if there is no change for this particular contact.

In general I find looking at the thickness to not be very useful and focus on the colour. There is unfortunately no way to turn off the thickness scaling at the moment.

Thanks for answering. It's very clear, if it cannot be turned off, maybe export the contact and plot in the third software is a good choice.
