How to put component into pure tension
Hello,
I have a structure where I am trying to put a component into tension by applying force vectors along its long-axis. However, when I take an FBD of the bar I see that the resultant forces are split between tension on one side of the applied force and compression on the other side of the applied force as seen in the image.
My goal is to model this in a way that the total 1500 lb applied load is only reacted by tension forces "above" the applied load (i.e. no compression). Does anybody have any modeling tips or suggestions on how to do this? Or is this problem setup inherently going to split the reaction between the compression and tension?
