How to extract particle strain data from edem

Hello,

 

I am studying the kinematics in a stirred mill and am interested in calculating the shear work on the particles in my mill. From physics, shear work = shear stress*shear strain. My question is how do I extract the shear strain data from my simulation? I know by definition strain is change in volume of the particles divide by original volume. But how do I get this information from my simulation? Please suggest other ways this can be done if any.

    Hi Ayuk,


    The particle size in EDEM isn't changing so you wouldn't be able to calculate strain per particle, but considering the bulk material could calculate the strain rate as the particle velocity gradient across a specific region.


    EDEMpy would be the tool to start looking at this kind of custom analysis:
