Altair EDEM Particle Generation
Hello,
I am working on generating 20,000 particles with different shapes. I created five bulk materials. Each bulk material contains five particles with different shapes. Now, I would like to generate 20,000 particles. Will the software automatically divide the 20,000 particles into the five bulk materials to generate 4,000 particles for each bulk material? If so, there are five particles with different shapes in each bulk material. Does that mean that the software will again divide the 4,000 particles for each bulk material by five and generate 800 particles for each shape? I have attached a screenshot for clarification.
Thank you for your time and consideration

Hi Ibrahim,
For each factory you set the number of particles (or mass) for each material type. So for 'Well Rounded' material you can set this to create 4000 particles and you will have to create another 4 factories to create the remaining material types.
If you have more than 1 shape in the material if you select the material name (Well Rounded) in the properties box you will see a Particle Ratio's option where you can set the ratio (% mass) of each shape in the material, that will then be accounted for in the 4000 particles created as each shape will be weighted towards it's own %.
Just to note I'd recommend using the latest version of EDEM as not all ratios and weightings are supported for all factory types in older versions.

I see. So, I have to create 5 different factories that generate 4000 particles each, and then within each bulk material, I can control the quantity of each individual particle shape right?
Thank you for your time

Just to make sure I am on the right track, here are screenshots of what I did.
Then I can just simply run the simulation? Or I have to run the simulation 5 different sometimes for each factory?
Thank you

Hi Ibrahim,
That looks correct, you can also verify it's correct during creation. The HowTo videos cover some of the factory settings also:
