Respected Forum,

I am a student pursuing BTech in Mechanical Engineering in India. Currently, I am working on a project to optimize the Bucket Tooth of an excavator considering a static load condition with a fixed support at one end figure 1 and 2 .
I am seeking assistance in Topology optimization of the design where the objective function is mass reduction in ALTAIR OPTI STRUCT.
I have selected the design parameters as follows in figure 3, however, I am unable to comprehend the other constraints that need to be given for an appropriate optimization.
The 3D model of the Bucket tooth is attached to the post.

Thank you all for your time and attention.

    Hi Mazen,

For topology optimization with minimizing mass as the objective, you should include some constraints to force material to be retained.  Here are some examples of common responses to constrain:

    • Allowable stress (STRESS)
    • Allowable deflection (DISP)
    • Natural frequency (FREQ)

I hope that gives you some ideas on how to formulate it.

    Thanks,

    Rob H.
