Enquiry about Liquid Exchange Model in EDEM
Hi,
After referring to your new liquid exchange model from the link below, I may encounter difficulty understanding the mechanism and wish to discuss it with your experts.
I am assuming that the simulation involves a purely particle-based system without the presence of a physical liquid phase, and the particles are thought to be coated with an imaginary liquid membrane, leading to the cohesion behaviors between particle interactions. In the simulation configurations, let's assume that the liquid content is 10%, so every particle will be evenly coated with a thin binder liquid layer. When the liquid bridge ruptures, the liquid content on each particle is assumed to remain at its initial value. Could you kindly clarify the mechanism behind the observed liquid exchange phenomenon under these conditions? Additionally, if liquid exchange does occur, what would be the appropriate method to export and quantify the amount of transferred liquid for further analysis?
Thanks for your great help in advance.
Best Regards,
Yu

Hi Yu
The liquid exchange is according to the work of Schmelzle and Nirschl in 'DEM Simulations: mixing of dry and wet granular materials with different contact angles'.
Hope this helps.

Jerrin JobHi Jerrin Job,
Thanks for sharing the publication, it is very helpful to me.
If I wish to extract the liquid content of each particle for tracking liquid change after simulation completion, could you kindly let me know how to achieve the post-processing work in EDEM?
Best Regards,
Yu

Should I apply EDEMpy for extraction? If so, could you kindly inform me of the commands for the extraction work?

Hi Yu
You can get the liquid content of the particles as a percentage of the mass of the particle. There is a custom property called 'Liquid Content' which will give you the liquid content for each particle.
Hope this helps.
