EDEM Flowability: Bond Number
Hello, so I have a powder spreading simulation where I have a bed of powder and spread it over with a blade. I scaled up the particles 10 times what they were in a research paper, and it flowed well. However, when I scaled the particles down to their actual size the flowability was greatly reduced. I am not too sure why this occurred, as I kept the parameters the same. I saw that I need to recalibrate my simulation when I scale down the particles. Would I need to do this by adding a bonding model? And how would I be able to determine the parameters listed.

Hi Jake
You are essentially changing the bond number of the particles when you change the size of the particles, keeping all parameters the same. So it is right that you see different flowability with different sizes, with all other parameters the same (assuming you are using JKR or EEPA).
To know more about how to calibrate your material, please refer to this e-Learning: https://learn.altair.com/enrol/index.php?id=513
Here is another article (research spotlight) about calibration from Purdue University: https://community.altair.com/community/en/edem-research-spotlight-calibration-of-dem-parameters-for-cohesive-powder?id=kb_article&sysparm_article=KB0123574
Hope this helps.
