In Door Slam Test What is the Force Reaction Direction?

Hello Team,

I am trying to extract forces at door latch point when it hits to the striker point during door slam event in MotionView.

We can ask forces using expression in output as show in images below.

(Reference: https://2021.help.altair.com/2021/hwsolvers/ms/topics/solvers/ms/fx.htm?zoom_highlightsub=Fx)

As you can see, door slams in Y direction (in image above). When I ask for forces in Y direction using expression as "FY({m_door.idstring},{m_car.idstring},{m_car.idstring})", I am getting max force in FX and not in FY.

Even if I rotate the model and slamming the door in other direction, I get max force in FX only.

So my Queries are;

1) Does it mean, when we define two points in expression that defines X direction irrespective of other co-ordinate systems?

2) continue to query 1, if so then what are the directions of other two axes?

Please help me on the same.

Thank you!

BR,

Ankush W

    Hi Ankush,

When I applied the method you tried, I got the same result as you. I tried to find the force coming to the door in the y direction by selecting force instead of expression in Output. When I did it this way, I observed the force on the Y axis as the max force. You can find the graphics in the attachment

    Hi Anil,

    Thank you for your reply.

You are getting forces on car body with marker on striker point. So forces may vary if we use sealings. If you do the same process for car door with marker on door latch point then you will find max force in X dir.

In addition, without asking forces on car body marker, you can see same force in Y if you ask forces on car door marker using expression for FY.

    Thank you again!

    BR,
