Force at different bulk height during compression

Hello everyone,

I am making a simulation of bulk compression in EDEM, illustrated via the schematic shown below. The compressive force is related to individual particles as a result of bulk compression caused by the movement of the lid down (shown by the direction of the arrow). During the compression, I monitored the force particles applied to the lid (indicated in the figure by H=80 mm) and compared it to the experimental data. However, I would need to obtain the same information at different heights, such as H=40 mm and H=10 mm. Please can you give me a hint in this regard? Can that be done in Analyst?

I would be very grateful for your reply.

Thank you and kind regards,
Iris

    Hi Iris,

You can use bin groups to split the EDEM domain into 'bins' and then query the info from the bins.

Just to add is 'compressive force' the measure that you want to look at? In EDEM for particles this is the sum of the normal contact forces regardless of their direction.  Looking at the Contact Forces and force chains maybe what you would want.  Bin Groups can be used for either.

    E-learning lesson 17.5 provides details on the sensors/bins -https://learn.altair.com/course/view.php?id=147&section=17
