    I don't think the problem is with the timestep.

    Let me check with the experts.

    HI @Amasker

    I ran the file without any output requests with 2017.2.3 and it went through and generated the results. Please update and try again.

    What does 2017.2.3 mean?

    I made a simple collision model and found that the rigid wall passed through the steel plate after the collision and moved a distance. How to control the speed of the rigid wall to zero after colliding with the steel plate, and how to deform the steel plate, I don't know How to set these parameters? here is the model file

    2017.2.3 is the software update which you can download from www.altairhyperworks.com website.

    @Prakash Pagadala

    After all the outputs are deleted, the operation is successful, but there is a problem. Why does the rigid wall bounce after the collision and stop moving in the opposite direction for a long time?

    How to control the rigid wall to stop after the collision, like a car Like a collision,

    there is still a problem. If all the outputs are deleted, the calculation will lose its meaning. I am confused whether Optistruct can run composite optimization analysis and size optimization analysis in explicit dynamic analysis.

    Well, CSTRESS and CSTRAIN are not supported as already said so including will result in a programming error like before.

    You may have to live with the homogenized results for time being until composite stress, strain results are available.

    So what if I want to calculate the stress strain of the composite under collision? And I want to do the optimization design of composite materials under collision. Any suggestions?

    I ran the file ,But why is there such a big deformation, just like distortion?

    Hi @Amasker

    I will check if there is a way to calculate the composite stress in HV by writing an equation.

    some problem with the modeling or units?

    @Prakash Pagadala

    I checked the .out file,following is error showing in the file。

     *** ERROR # 4002 ***
     Running RADIOSS engine, 1 ERROR and 0 WARNINGs have been detected.
     They are listed below.

     ENGINE ERROR:
      ** RUN KILLED : ENERGY ERROR LIMIT REACHED

    I modified the element、contact property、interface etc。But still have the above problem,

    How to correct the error above? thanks

    You can also set up a crash simulation in Optistruct and optimize with ESLM.

    In the book Nonlinear Optimization of Vehicle Safety Structures it is noted that the Equivalent Static Load Method is not very useful for crashworthiness optimization. Instead, it is suggested to first extract load paths by topology optimization using linear static analysis with inertia relief boundary condition (as opposed to Single Point Constraint). Subsequently, buckling should be investigated and optimized by size and shape optimization. For side impact loading they used 300 kN force spread over area measuring 1560x475mm (moving barrier dimensions).

    I would recommend this book to anyone interested in structural optimization application in automotive safety (here is a preview). As a bonus, they used Hyperworks suite.
