Error 1203 in CBEAM

Hi guys, I am trying to build a schematic suspension following the guide lines given by my professor. He told me to create a sort of McPherson susp made by three CBEAM and three rigids with zero length (used to realize three spherical joints).

So, I built all the suspension, but, when I run the simulation, Hypermesh gives me this message error:

    The problem is likely the three 0.0 value fields in the CBEAM definition (these are fields 6 to 8 on that card). These are the vector used to define the cross-section orientation of your beam elements. Any vector that isn't oriented along the beam axis will do, but if you have a non-circular beam cross section, this determines how the section is rotated.

    mmh... The section of my beam is circular.

    Anyway, how can I set the orientation of the beam cross section?

    I tried to go further in the problem but I encountered another error.

    I used the orientation option given by 'direction node': I clicked one of the nodes at end of the CBAR and I kept push during the selection of the CBAR itself. Result:

    Where is now the problem?

    Ok, the mistake was very trivial... I thought that the required direction would be the one of the central axis of the tube, whereas, actually, it is the radial one (in case of a circular cross beam). So, I just created vectors perpendicular to the axis of the tubes and I used them as orientation for the cross section.

    PROBLEM SOLVED!!! :d/

    Hi Jbarrie,

     

    Choose an orientation (according to your cross section).

     

    Go to 1D panel>> BAR >> Update >> change the orientation of the beam/bar elements (say to Y axis).

    Dear Prakash,

     

    Thanks for your reply. I tried what you suggested and the simulation ran (there was no more Error 1203). However, viewing the results in HyperView wasn't what i expected at all. I had a chassis modelled in HyperMesh, but in HyperView it became only ONE LINE. Any ideas what may have went horribly wrong there?

    what are the displacements?

     

    can you check the loads and constraints on your model?

     

    is it possible to show us a picture of what you are saying?

    Hi Prakash,

     

    Thanks for your immediate response.

    This is the model I am working on http://tinypic.com/r/2wmmkj9/8. It is a simple torsional analysis on a chassis. I applied 1g force at the front of the chassis while constraining the back (translation x,y,z only). Based on the tutorial, there is no need for responses or dconstraints or objectives because I am not trying to run an optimization. So i stopped at setting a loadstep, and went straight to Optistruct to run an analysis.

    check for connectivity in your model.

     

    looks like there are rigid modes in your model.
