Hello: I am using Abaqus CAE to do the analysis,I got Abaqus CAE result file .odb. I want to use hypermesh to open .odb and use Hypermesh command 'FE to Surf' to get a drformed geometry. Can Hypermesh open .odb directly and make a deformed geometry by deformed element from the Abaqus CAE result file(odb).

    Hi,

HyperMesh cannot read ODB result files. However, HyperView reads ODB files.

To get the deformed geometry in HyperMesh, you can do the following:

    (1) Open the ODB file in HyperView 8.0

    (2) Apply the deformed shape and then use the Utilities pull down menu >> export deformed shape and choose the ABAQUS format to export the deformed shape in the ABAQUS format

    (3) This will generate an *.inp file with the deformed elements (shape). You can then read this file in HyperMesh 8.0 and use Fe to Surf to extract surfaces.

If you have a FIL result file from ABAQUS, you can use hmabaqus utility in HyperMesh to create a *.res result file, which you can then open in HyperMesh (after importing the original inp file). This will give you access to your results in HyperMesh. To use the hmabaqus utility, please do the following in the ABAQUS user profile.

    1. Go to analysis page >> click on “solver”.

    2. Switch “Solver” to hmabaqus.

    3. For input file: select .FIL file by browsing.

    4. For output file: type a file name giving .res extension.

    5. Click on “Solve”.

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks,

hvSuuport: Thanks for your reply. I try to use hyperview to do post-process. I can load the model file (.inp)and result file(.odb) to hyperview. When I choose 'set contour options and edits legend' ,I can't see any relult type form 'Choose from list' window. So I can't do-post process in Hyperview. Ca you tell me what is the possible reason?

IN HV, you can do animation and whatever postprocessing you can. I recommend that you go through the HV tutorial, which can speed up your learning curve.
