problems by defining the master surface for a self contact

Hi there,

I hope anyone can help me with this problem:
I have imported a surface-geometry from Catia in Hypermesh. I want to create a self contact of this geometry for a crash simulation with RADIOSS (BLOCK DATA). Using the interfaces panel, I want to define the whole surface geometry for the master as well as the slave. But there is the problem: After defining it, the master surface stays blank. In the review you can only see the red color of the slave component and the solver says that the master surface is empty.

I think it´s a problem to use external surfaces. When I'm using an other Catia geometry and first defining a midsurface of it in hypermesh everything works fine.

I think that I`ve found a first hint in the Online Help maybe, but it doesn`t help me so much because I'm beginner in this system.

Maybe it will help you:

'When defining an interface type 7 with solid element parts on the master side, is it necessary to put shells on the external surface of the part?

No, only the external surface of the solid should be defined.

As of RADIOSS V9.0, it is possible to define the surface of an external skin of a solid part (or a subset, a material, a property, …) with the option /SURF/PART/EXT.

With older RADIOSS versions, this surface should be built using segments (a surface type /SURF/SEG will be created but no additional element added)'

Thank you for any help. It´s really important for me ;-)

    Hi,

I´ve localized the problem. When I mesh the surfaces with quads of second order, I can´t define the self-contact in this way. But when I´m using first order quads there isn´t this problem.

So, my question: how can I define a self contact (Type 7) in the interfaces panel, using second-order-quads for meshing?

Thank you for any answers ;-)

    Hi,

Can you create a contact surface (csurf) for the components and try defining the contact?.

And also, please watch this video tutorial which shows defining a self contact for a crash simulation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mj_4IlcjSwU&index=4&list=PL1u26y75SCrA_BOCLaSewVCNY7xRvCTnA
