2D analysis - how?

Hello,
I would like to calculate (and later optimize) a planar (2D) problem as shown in the picture with Optistruct. Where can I find suitable info/tutorials or who of you can help me?
I have already worked out the basics (eLearning). But already a simple model is not solved correctly: I create a plane model and according to the solution it deforms in the third direction....

I am grateful for any help.

    Hello Alexander,

For this application, I would recommend you use the Plane Strain formulation. I am attaching a small model and a document here for your reference on the setup. In short, what you need is:

    - change the element type, trias to CTPSTN and quads to CQPSTN

    - make sure that your model is in the XY plane, which means, all Z coordinates of the nodes must be zero. It works for XZ plane too (Y=0 for all nodes)

    - Create a PPLANE property

In the document attached, the plane strain section starts on page 20. Hope it clarifies your question. Thank you!

    Hello Vinicius,

    thank you, that was helpful.

Now I'm at the point where I can run a calculation without errors, and all results are displayed except for a simple deformation plot. When I want to create a deformation plot in Hyperview, nothing happens. What could be the reason for this? Even a contour plot of the deformation is possible.

I'm looking forward for your help.

    Hi Alexander,

You can control the output you need under the GLOBAL OUTPUT REQUEST card. Displacements and Stresses are the default output for Static analysis. If you are interested in Strains output, you can check the box and set the format to H3D:
