how to do further static and dynamic analysis on a topology optimized structure

Hi all,

I got a FEASIBLE topology from OS and i wish to do further static and dynamic analysis of the same optimized topology

For which tried exporting the IGES file to CAD software's but was not continuous and hence was not able to convert it to a solid CAD model

Is there any method to convert the optimized topology to a CAD model

Is a shape/topography optimization mandatory in this regard?

or is there any other method to perform a static n dynamic analysis of a topology optimized structure

Regards

Mohammed Safal

Could you please explain it step by step. I could not understand it truely. You are having problems due to the CAD software or due to the HyperMesh ?

I am not able to get a CAD model of the optimized topology

I got a feasible design from optistruct, set a threshold value of .3, applied OSS using Laplacian smoothening and then i exported the IGES file to SOLID works, CATIA, UNIGRAPHICS, INVENTOR etc

In all the above said CAD softwares the IGES file was opened and the optimized topology was shown

But the optimized topology containes more than 10,000 entities like lines, points ect (it was not continuous)

It was not a single SOLID model, instead an array of lines n points

I need help in converting the IGES file to a SINGLE SOLID CAD model

so that i can do further static and dynamic analysis on that particular CAD model and also use it in CNC to produce the real product

    I hope i am clear

In Catia, it is not easy to combine free surfaces which are extracted from Hypermesh. So, you have to find an another converting program which combine free surfaces.

I tried different CAD packages likes Solid works, Autodesk Inventor, Unigraphics, Catia......none of them were able to render a feasible output ( a solid CAD model of the optimized topology)....

any suggestion regarding the CAD software's that can be used?

Besides is there any modification that can be made in Hypermesh itself to combine the surfaces initially itself and then export it to the regular CAD packages....

    regards

This can be done in CATIA. i joined the small surfaces in CATIA. try joining surfaces icon(needed to be done several times) then make it as a solid.
