Error 1000
Hello,
I have to do simulation and optimisation of a Sandwich structure with carbon fibre laminate face sheets and aluminium honeycomb core. In Simulation a 3 point bednding test as well as a shear Test has to be conducted and I have following problems regarding it.
1) Solid-Shell Connection: I read in one the replies on this forum that in order to get the connection between solid(core) and shell(laminate plies)it is good to generate faces on solid through Tools->Faces and give the faces a property of PSHELL with a Thickness of .001. I have done the same and wanted to check if the model is correct so applied some random value of force on the uppermost laminate. Unfortunately I m getting an error „Error 1000*** in the input data:incorrect data in the field#3.” Could you please tell me how to remove it, secondly it i have Modelled it correct.
Thanks

Hi @Abhinav
There are Quad elements in CORE component which does not hold any property. Please check and delete if the same are not necessary

Thanks prakash.
I deleted the quads but now m getting another error. I updated the elements of the contact surfaces respectively after deleting the quads but still it shows me the error 14 missing element for surfaces.
Secondly like I asked in the mail, is it possible to conduct the dynamic analysis in optistruct for the data of the impactor.
Thanks.

Hi @Abhinav
Recreate the slave top and bottom contact surfaces using solid faces and remove any dummy materials and properties.
This should fix the issue. /emoticons/default_smile.png' srcset='/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x' title=':)' width='20'>

Hello Prakash,
I recreated the contact surfaces like advised. Would there be no dummy material assigned to the faces/face property?
I deleted the dummy material but it generates the error that a field 3 is missing inthe face property, which i assume is material. Could you please have a loook into it.
Thanks.

even if I assign some material to face property, it still gives me error 14.
How to remove them? what exactly is missing I am not able to understand. I am attaching the .hm file to your filetransfer link, so that you can a better look .

Abhinav,
There is no need to have face elements. You can select solid faces to create contact surfaces if you are using HW 14.0 and above.
So there is no need for dummy material and property at all.

I am using version 12. Its in university campus.

Hi Abhinav,
I will share a file with you through FTP where contact issue is fixed.
But there is some problem with either material or load. Please check whether the values provided in material are correct or not. Also check the units and make sure you maintain consistent unit system.

Hello Prakash,
thanks for your help.
Unfortunately i am not to able to open the file that you shared with me. could you tell me a solution for opening the file.
Apart from that i would like to know what exactly was the error in contacts that i made and how you corrected them, so in future i can take care of it.
Yes some material data is missing, hopefully i will have it soon and would work further on the simulation.
Hypermesh doesnt have a unit system, if m not wrong? so basically i adapt/change my units to one basic one for all the data.
Thanks again.

Hi Abhinav,
that is a .fem file. Use Import option to open the file in HyperMesh.
There is no connection between face elements and top and bottom elements. Anyways, you can remove face elements and have RBEs between solid core, top and bottom shell elements.

Hello Prakash,
could it be possible that because of my older version of hypermesh I am not able to open this file? I have version 12 at pc.
Regarding the contacts, i made the contacts through the contact surfaces( defining masters( ply shell and face elements slaves) and then interface ( Solid face)- TIE. I wonder why it didn´t make the contacts between the surfaces. Did I take wrong the procedure to make contacts?

Hi Abhinav,
What I shared is a solver deck and I think it should work irrespective of version. Are you sure you are importing using Import option?
Do you see any error message when you try to import the .fem file?
Regarding contacts, I am a little confused with the modelling approach. I would suggest to remove face eelements and use RBEs to connect solid and shell elements.

Hello Prakash,
the file opened now. Thanks.
I have put the missing material data in your model. There are still some issues with contact since the force is not being transferred to the core. There is no stress in core , although i get some values in the upper and bottom laminates.
Besides that regarding the RBE, you mean RB3 elements right? I made RB3 by choosing one node on Glas fibre which is just above the core( independent) and same process on the bottom side, just to test the model. Despite that no transfer of load in core.
Could you maybe tell me what could be the reason for it?
Thanks.

What does the error message ' the dependent node cannot be an independent node:removing' mean?
I am selecting the dependent on glas fibre ply and independent on the core. Or am I doing it completely wrong?

Abhinav,
RBe2 should work,
Can you sahre the updated model file?

Hey,
i have sent you the file. As contacts I still have face elements.

Hello Prakash ,
I just realised, the core does has the stress values, but it just appears blue. I guess the scale value is too high and correspondingly it appears blue.
Could you just check if Modeling is right?
Thanks

Hi,
I shared a file with you just now.
I see stress on core as well.

hello prakash,
i changed the mesh a little bit and i am again getting the same problems which i was getting earlier. Error 14 missing references. I am attaching the output file and would be sending the fikle to you.
I would appreciate again your help.
Thanks & Regards

Hi Abhinav,
No out file is attached to your post. please attach the .out file.

I have sent you per Filetransferlink as well.

Rename Faces component (remove ^ at the begining of the name) and MAT9ORT is supported for solid element not for shell elements. One of the components with shell property has MAT9ORT material. please check and correct the same.

Hello Prakash,
thanks for your help so far. I really appreciate it.
I just wished to ask one more thing, is it possible to modell prepegs directly in hypermesh? i have a prepg of 45/-45 of thickness .26mm which i wish to use as 45/-45 & 0/90 plies.
The way i have modelled is : made two plies with same properties of 45 & -45 orientationa nd divided the thickness in two;so .26/2= .13mm.
Put these two plies one after the other in stacking sequence with .13mm.
So is there any other manner of modelling a fabric? since in optimisation i have to give balance as45/-45 & 0/90 as constraints.

Hello Prakash,
after the free sizing,( which didnt do a lot) i try to do composite sizing. But it gives an error 'ERROR 13: DLINK dependent DESVAR,215100 is repeated in the input data.'. Could you maybe tell me how i can remove it.
Thanks

one more question, somehow m getting after applying a force of almost 22775N a displacement of just around 1mm. The real experminet conducted by one of colleagues has a deflection of around 8mm on application of bending force 21000. His structure is little bit different in tems of the thickness. Hes has thicker fabrics (.32mm) compared to mine( .26mm).
Could you please check if there is something wrong in the model? I did the check through reaction forces and modal analysis. The units for are mainted as MPa, N, g/mm3.
Thanks again.

Hi Abhinav,
Is it a uni directional or bidirectional Prepeg?
I dont see any ply with 0.13 thickness. All plies have around .2 thickness.
0 -
Bidirectional, I changed the thickness for free sizing. The carbon fibre layer(Gurit) is .26mm( fabric) and Glas fibre .18mm. The manufacturing constraints I wished to give in the sizing/shuffling.

Hello Prakash,
i have done the free sizing of my structure and cleaned up the plies. In my structure I am using glas fibre ply as a non conductive material between the aluminium honeycomb core and the carbon fibre plies to avoid corrosion issues. Now the problem is after free sizing it reduced the length of the glas fibre ply and there is a free contact between the aluminium core and carbon fibre. ( region with red marker in the photo below)
How to add the elements in the red marked area so that the above mentioned direct contact around this region is prevented. I tried through element creation but it doesnt work.
Apart from that since I mentioned earlier that for the free sizing m not giving the manufacturing contraint of ply thickness wish to give in the next stages of sizing. What do you suggest. I saw that in one of the video thats why came up with this procedure. My Tmax is .13mm for each carbon fibre ply( a prepeg fabric of .26mm thickness : 0/90 or 45/-45) and .18mm for glas fibre ply.
Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks & WIth Regards
Abhinav
