Size optimization to specific value

Hi,

I'm trying to optimize the stiffness of a structure to a specific displacement value by changing material properties. This works fine so far but I did not figure out yet how I can set my objective that the displacement response has a specific value at the end.

Simple example:

I have a straight beam with an axial load. I want to run an optimization changing Young's modulus of the beam in order to get a nodal displacement of 2mm.

Best regards

Stefan

Your objective becomes value specific only if it is refering to Objective reference (maxmin or minmax).

but you can go ahead with your normal methodology with contraint on deplacement response as minimum =2 as well maximum = 2

In this case your obj. should be minimize mass.

I hope you are using material property as a design variable in size optimization.

I think, optistruct can't use the material properties as 'parameters' or 'design variables'.

But I'm 100% sure that you can do that optimization with Hyperstudy, i have done it with this module.

no there is no response for material propertys. but you can run mutiple analysis, set the displacement as constrain and set the objective to min mass.

I think it depends how your material property changes , if you change it , or it changes itself according to the geometry
