mesh in hyperworks

Hi Experts,

I created a 3D mesh (as shown in the image below) in Hyperworks Desktop and I saved the file in .hm format. When I open the same file in Hyperworks CFD, I don't see any mesh. What could be the reason?

The following is in Hyperworks CFD:

As a general information, .hm files stored by HyperWorks (Structural) and HyperWorks-CFD are not compatible with each other. This is by design due to some technical reasons, like optimizing memory usage.

Hence it is not recommended to mesh move the same .hm file between these software. To keep it simple, start and end with the same tool (HW or HWCFD).

AFAIK I know in the upcoming release, there will be a separate extension for CFD preprocessing files.

    Hi Prabin,

Is there a specific reason you meshed the model in HyperWorks and then moved in HyperWorks CFD? Is there a missing tool/capability in HWCFD? We generally advise users to avoid jumping from HW to HWCFD since we have seen it to cause several issues (corrupted database, solid bodies appearing as surfaces, etc).

Now regarding your question, could you please check whether a mesh is appearing when you change the view from "Geometry only" to "Mesh only", as shown in the picture below?

I tried to do it again. It shows neither volume mesh nor surface mesh. I liked the hypermesh interface of hyperworks so I gave it a try. Ok, let me try entirely with the hyperworks cfd.

I am not sure why it is very difficult to extrude the tetra mesh for three volumes in hyperworks cfd. I get blue color for the mesh.

    Hi Prabin,

The .hm files from hyperworks include both 2D and 3D mesh or only 3D mesh.

Can you share the hm file?

    Hi Prabin,

Please also share the hm file that you started entirely in HWCFD.

Here are the models created entirely in hyperworks cfd. Is complete hex meshing possible in hyperworks cfd?

This is the model in hyperworks.

This is the model in hyperworks.

To use mesh from hyperworks in hyperworks cfd, you should include both 2D and 3D mesh for each component like this.

    Hi Prabin,

You can do an extrusion mesh in both prisms (as you have already done so) and in hexas. Please find attached a video showing the process and the respective hm file.

Thank you for your effort. Do you have an easier method to increase number of elements along the thickness for only the volume set in the middle?
