Simulating adhesive joint under compression

Hi

I am analysing an adhesive joint (adhesive thickness = 3mm) under compression where two plates are connected using glue.

In Radioss, I have defined failure model “CONNECT” but it looks like the parameters used i.e, Failure in normal direction and Failure relative displacement in tangential plane are for the elongation (when the component is subjected to tension).

Few details:

- Adhesive modelled as /MAT/LAW59 Connector elements.

- /FAIL/CONNECT used to control adhesive failure in shear (element deletion)

- /PROP/CONNECT is used with no data.

I am not sure which Failure criteria are to be used as I couldn’t find much information available on Internet to simulate the behaviour of adhesive under compression.

Thanks!

    Hi,

have you refereed to failure formulation?

there are two, Uni directional and multi directional failure.

if you are expecting (failure in a plane) then use Ifail= 1
