I have done this modeling in optistruct (an enforced displacement is applied to the back of plastic clip and required force for this this displacement is asked) but when I run the model and post process it in Hyper view I see the the clip penetrates in to the sheet metal. I think this penetration makes the results invalid. Would you please let me know what is wrong with this modeling. The model is attached

I have defined contact between all these surfaces but I don't understand why it behaves like this

Hi Bita,

I think this is because the leaf screen is way too soft and doesn't provide sufficient contact stiffness.

also, why the E value is negative for the leafscreen?

Thank you for your answer Prakash. The Young's modulus for the Leaf screen. I have entered the value of 25 Mpa for the leafscreen as Elastic modulus.

Which E is negative??

Do you think this problem of penetration will be solved if I switch to Radioss? or do you think Optistruct is ok.

How should I modify my model to have valid results without penetration?

For leaf screen I see the E as a negative value. Please see the image below.

Ignore my previous reply. Looks like there is some problem with HM,

When I export to .fem file I can see the actual E value.

So what is wrong with the model why the leafsceen has penetrated in to the sheet metal are the results valid?

Hi Bita,

Can you change the SITFF option to HARD in PCONT card and try?

Also, I have noticed that you are using PLSOLID property for solid elements. This is valid only for Hyperelastic material.

The leafscreen is made of Washington Penn 20% talc filled poly pro

The sheet metal is made of steel

You can give try law36 for the polypropylene in Radioss.
