Hello. I've got two components which are made of the same material but when I run a static analysis, the two are not connected in anyway i.e. they do not behave as one components, I wish to keep the two components separate in the model browser but for it to behave as one. How would I do this?

    Hi,

I hope if you have not created connector or contact then it is a intended behaviour. As mentioned above that you have two component. In real life component would have connected using bolts , welds or lying on one another. Hence in FEA we should represent same by using bolted , welded, adhesive or contact.Without these connector or contact part will not transfer load from one component to another.

Hi Rahul. I'm trying to do a topology optimisation of a component, so I have just divided a single component into design and non-design space. Therefore, the entire component should behave as one and not be welded/bolted together.

How do I tell HM that these two components should behave as a single component?

    Hi,

Thanks for the explaination. Please provide same property to the nondesign region which you have assigned to design region.

Hi Rahul. But I need to apply different properties to my design and non-design space because I am only trying to optimise my design space. When I run a static analysis, the two components behave separately and are not 'stuck' together.

    Hi,

Could you share the screen shot of your model for the same.

Obective of segregating design and non design is after optimization it should not remove material near to your loads and constraint location.

The green is the design space, the red is the non-design space. When I applied a load to the green, the red acts if it is not connected to the green at all.

Check for the connectivity in that junction using Edges command (Shift+F3).I assume you would have divided the design and nondesign in CAD.Make sure the connectivity using edges command. With minimum tolerance check preview equivalence and if it highlight all the node at that junction ,then do equivalence to merge the nodes.
