A brief description about the project:

There is a clip which should passes through the sheet metal slot. The clip is made of plastic. We are looking for the the required force
Case#1 straight installation force
Case#2 Straight removal force

Which means that the displacement is known and We are looking for the required force

Unloaded condition of clip (Below is the initial state, before clip is deflected as it passes through the sheet metal slot)

Case#1
The leafscreen is pressed into the sheet metal so that the barb of the clip passes through the slot.  Need to know max load for clip to deflect and slip into sheet metal slot for all iterations.

CASE #2 – Straight Removal Load

Opposite of Case 1 – pull leafscreen straight out of slot until barb of clip passes through the slot – need to know max load to remove for all iterations.

Questions:

1. Should I consider nonlinear static analysis or nonlinear quasi static analysis to solve this problem? (I have assumed that the clip travels with velocity of 1mm/s in direction of displacement) is it necessary to make this assumption or I can forget about the velocity and do a nonlinear static analysis?

2. Which solver should I use? Optistruct or Raidioss?

3. Would you pleas guide me regarding the cases in which displacements are known and loading condition is asked like this problem. I would appreciate if you can send me any example or tutorial in this regard.

    Hi Bita,

Since you know the amount that clip displaces, my approach would be to give an enforced displacement and this is equal to the known displacement and request for the SPC forces to know the force values required.

You can use OptiSrtuct solver for this.
