Hi Alex,
For bus structure, which are thin sheet metal components, shell mesh is always preferred. The shell mesh approach creates a fast running accurate simulations.
Please go through http://www.altairuniversity.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/meshing.pdf which gives a good insight into meshing.

okay....Sir I have done 3D tetramesh due to time constraints for roof crush analysis of bus..the structure is just chassis and the superstructure frames , they are not covered with sheets..like in the fig attached... apart from run time will this workout?

Hi Alex,
The quality of the mesh directly reflects on the quality of the results generated and so ensure the quality of the mesh generated. At the same time, the number of elements (number of nodes) affects the computation time.

can the quality of tetramesh be adjusted to the limits?

Hi Alex,
The utmost importance is the element quality. Please remember that the elements not only “reflect” the CAD model, but eventually the analysis is based on the finite elements. Hence, any deviation from the ideal element shape (e.g. perfect quadrilateral shape in case of a quad element) introduces numerical errors. The magnitude of such errors is generally difficult to assess.
Please go through http://www.altairuniversity.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Student_Guide_211-233.pdf which gives more idea on quality checks for tetra meshing.
Use Optimize Mesh Quality option in Tetramesh panel which directs the tetramesher to spend more time optimizing element quality. The user can set the element quality target for tet collapse.vol skew and cell squish.
