Geometry creation

I'm trying to edit a component geometry, problem is that surface creation and other simple operations (such as stitching two points) require several minutes to complete. What can i do to improve the processing speed? 

I also noticed that the .hm file size (30 MB) has increased 10 times from the initial model, can this influence program speed?
