Stress Contours on 2D or 3D mesh

I have a 3D part that was 2D surfaced meshed and then 3D elements created.

It seems as if the stress contour results were set-up on the 2D mesh only.

Meaning the interior of the part does not have results, only the "skin"

Why would it be set up this way ?

Hypermesh using Abaqus

Make sure you are requesting the correct results output. And make sure you are contouring the correct results output. It would be helpful if you share a picture.

Hi Jason, I sorted it out. Well, partially.

I now realize that the models I have been working with have both 3D elements , and 2D membrane elements.  The results are out putted for the 2D elements.

Do you know how to to set-up the output to specify which mesh you want the solution for ?

I'm not an abaqus user, but check your output requests in elfile for S, SINV etc, and that the 'element set' request isn't set for just a reduced set of your elements (if element set is omitted it should be outputting results for everything)
