Surface selection

I am trying to generate a ply in OptiStruct and assign a model/surface to it. Whenever I try to assign a single face surface to the ply it by default selects the full component which I don't want. To get a better overview, assume I am designing a leaf spring(1 leaf) and now I want to assign the inner curved surface/face of the leaf to the ply.
The selector wont select the surface rather it would select the full component. Please let me know how can I select only the inner curved surface rather than the full component?

Altair EmployeeYes indeed I am creating plies using Ply cards.

Hi,
How are you creating plies? is it through PLY card?
You can select elements instead of component(s) when you choose.
or you can organize elements into different components and select the required component for a chosen ply.
