Dear all,

I am running a simulation with 1 GPU and run into a runtime error problem just at the beginning (see screenshot).

Does anyone has an idea, why this is happening?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Best regarss,

Yuan

    Hi Juan,

It's possibly related to the GPU running out of memory.  Which version of EDEM are you using and which solver engine?  What kind of GPU do you have?

    Hi Stephen,

we are using EDEM 2022.3 and the GPU is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 10 Series

    Hi Yuan,

I would expect that the GPU is running out of memory. The GTX 10 series contains a range of cards but they typically have low memory compared to the newer GPU cards.

You can check memory usage during simulation to confirm, either by selecting the show "GPU memory usage" icon in the Simulator or via windows Resource Monitor you can see the GPU memory usage.

    Hi stephen,

I can not even start the simulation, therefore I can not check the GPU memory. I have tried to select the icon, that  no data are shown. However, If it is this problem, how could I solve it?

Acturally I have run the same simulation once, this error just show up when I change a contact parameter.

    Hi Yuan,

Does the simulation run on CPU, even for a few time-steps or another machine?

It maybe that the simulation file is corrupt and setting up again may help, or if it runs on CPU for a few time-steps you could then stop the simulation and continue running from that point on GPU.

I tried to set up the simulation again and i get same error. I dont have any issue with the api as it works well with windows.
