Reflection of pressure waves in piping systems with HW

Hello,

I have a questions about a possible study: is it possibile with HW CFD to evaluate the reflection of pressure waves?

For examples I inject a periodic pressure forcing on one side (is it possible?) and I want to see how the pressure varies at different points in time. For an open pipes (one inlet and one outlet) and for a closed pipe (just one inlet, is it possible?). Is this something that could be evalueted with HW CFD?

Thanks in advance,

regards.

You could certainly try that - but I would recommend using a fairly fine mesh, and isentropic density where the density depends on absolute pressure and thus can vary.  The variable density would be particularly important for the case with a closed pipe, but I would recommend it for both cases.

(No need to use compressible or mildly compressible - just the standard solver but with variable density.)
