Composite with 3D Element (PSOLID)

I'm planning to use PSOLID element for a 3D composite model, but I'm stuck with how to put thickness, orientation and Failure theory. Please tell me how to go about this.

Thanks.

    Hi @akshay325

Solid thickness will be the thickness of the ply and there is no thickness as such on PSOLID card.

You can review or assign orientation using Orientation tools or be using the systems panel.

You can use MAT9 or MAT9ORT as the material card for orthotropic material with solid elements.

    Dear Prakash,

If I am planning to use Solid elements for composites,  how is the distribution of the stacking of the laminates in the thickness of the model? Should I need to have the number of elements through the thickness of the model the same of the number of layers (and with the same thickness per layer per solid)? Or is HM automatically  assigning one element for each ply

    Thank you for the time

    Hi there,

Firstly try to create 3D orthotropic material. Secondly create laminate for the stacking you got. Finally create psolid proper for the 3D elements. In this process you can specify your ply thickness or percentage of the oriented plies. But this method may not be available for linear static solver. I am also searching for creating 3D orthotropic composite laminate for linear static solver. If someone can help please notify me also.

P.S. I am planing to try ton create 3D anisotropic material and give orthotropic material stiffness matrix in to it. But seems not feasible to me.

    Thanks.
