'weld' and 'rigids' are simple names for 'generic' elements in HyperMesh. It depends on the solver you work with, what FE elements they will represent. You can check this in the 'elem types' panel. In the case of RADIOSS, a 'weld' element would be a RBAR and a 'rigid' element a RBE2
So what I get from this that using RADIOSS, there is really no difference between the RBAR (Rigid Bar) and the 'rigid' element other that you can set the 6 DOF with the RBAR if you look at the solver deck.
