Composite Failure Criteria: How is it calculate?

Helle every body,

i'm currently working on a model with composites materials.

But i want to know wich failure criteria can i use to have the most accurate results.

I'm on sandwich strucutre with alu foam (mesh with 3D elems using PSOLID-MAT1 parameter) and the skin is in Carbon PPA (using 2D elements and PCOMP-MAT8). You could see it in the attachments.

Actually i know the equations of each criteria (TSAI / HILL ..) but i wanted to know how is it calculate in Hypermesh/Optistruct and which is the best for 3D analysis? Do i need to use MAT9 instead of MAT8?

Thank's you best regards.

OptiStruct doesn't do anything different from the regular Tsai/Hill, formulations. This is listed here in the documentation. There are also failure model specific for 3D models.

MAT8 is of course an approximation and it has limitations compared to MAT9, specially out of the plane behavior.
