in HM2020, the exported contact surfaces are defined in a indirect way, like this:

*Surface, NAME = Surface_2_M, TYPE = ELEMENT

_Surface_2_M_S1,S1
_Surface_2_M_S2,S2
_Surface_2_M_S3,S3
_Surface_2_M_S4,S4

how can i get the old way back? like in 2017

*SURFACE, NAME = Surface_2_M, TYPE = ELEMENT
872555695, S3
872548513, S3
872542437, S3
.......

THANK YOU for HELP

    Hello,

This is a new enhancement in Abaqus to follow set based contact surface.

That does not really answer the question. Is there any way to turn off the "enhancement"?

I have the same issue and dont want to have a split surface definition with hidden element-sets that I did not define.

    Hi Tobias,

i asked Altair support, it is not possible with HM2020 version.

the proposed solution is to install the latest version 2021.2, then there will be an export option for it, and the output looks promising (see pic). i have not tried yet, but good to know i can stop struggling.
