Connect components

Hey there,

I try to build up a modell consisting of many components. In reality these components have contact to each other and so i create the midsurfes of all the components and assigned shell elements to them. So when you display the shell elememts with their thikness the components have contact. Now i want to connect the nodes of the shell elements. (the white surface has conntact with the red surface and the red surface has conntact with the grey surface)

Whats the best strategy to do that? equalizing the nodes is no solution, because all components have different thinkesses. I thought that it would be possible to use rigid elements (rbe2) then i have to connect every single node. So i tried to use area connection funktion and also the spot funciton, but then optistruct returns: A dependent d.o.f. defined more than once in rigid element entry.

Can you help me?

    Hi Xone92,

Try with Freeze contact and check whether you get expected results or not.

It is a contact interface and you can find this in Analysis page>> Interface

    1) First create contact surfaces on the elements where you think the component will come in contact

    2) Create interfaces using interface panel and refer the contacts accordingly.

Refer to the tutorial OS-1365: NLSTAT Analysis of Solid Blocks in Contact in OptiStruct help for how to create contact surfaces and interface.

In your case, you need to change the interface (contact ) type to FREEZE instead of SLIDE which is shown in the tutorial.

Ok, but then i need to run a non-linear analysis. But i want to run a normal modes analysis

If you want to run normal modes analysis you can consider nodal contact like equivalence the nodes.

The other way is to connect with RBEs. But you have to be careful when choosing the dependent and independent DoFs.
