To create LCS use Analysis page: System Option.See attached screenshot.

You can apply forces directly while defining direction using two nodes as well.

I'm trying to define them so they run at a 45 degree angle but can't figure out how to do it /emoticons/default_mellow.png' title=':mellow:'>

Since you don't have any reference for defining inclined path or geometry.you can use rotate option to rotate node with 45 degree and then choose two  as n1 & n2 to define a incline direction.See attached screenshot.
