Altair Inspire Initialization Failure

Upon launching I receive the following error

Error loading C:/Program Files/Altair/2023/Inspire2023/hwx/plugins/freedom/gui/win64/bin/hwfdmplugin.dll: A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I also cannot find any help or related problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Samuel,

There is a fair chance that one of the important DLLs is being deleted from that folder during installation by anti-virus. Can you try re-installing the tool with Antivirus on off mode?

    Hi everyone,

I have the same problem than the one describe above.

I try to run Inspire on a Windows 11 Parallels virtual machine with a MacBook Air M3.

I checked the files and "hwfdmplugin.dll" is not deleted. I also tried to uninstall and reinstall Inspire, it doesn't change anything.

Do you have any idea of solution ?

    Thanks.

    Thomas

    Hello NT,

What version of Inspire do you have and did you check if the dll mentioned above is there in the location?

    Regards,

    Milan

    Hello,

I have the same problem and the file is in the indicated location. I have Inspire version 2023.1.

I also have another PC on which to install inspire but I don't know how to request a new licence because I can't repeat the first step described here : https://web.altair.com/altair-student-edition
because I've already created an account using my university email address.

    Thank you,

    Valentine

I don't know if this problem has been solved but ive currently run into this same problem when launching Inspire on InspirePersonal 2024.1.1 and Inspire 2025

Error loading C:/Program Files/Altair/2025/Inspire2025/hwx/plugins/freedom/core/win64/bin/hwfdmplugin.dll: A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.

    Hardware/Software Configuration:
    Windows 10
    Intel® Xeon E5-2697 64GB ram
    NVIDIA Geforce GTX Titan 6.0GB

A similar thread suggested setting setting High Performance graphics settings for AMD and NVIDIA GPU's (https://community.altair.com/discussion/60552/failed-to-open-inspire-2024-1-1). This option didn't work for me. I even switched out graphics cards to a GeForce GTX 1060 6.0GB.

I notice that the dynamic library is present located in the correct place. Could this be an system environment variable that hasn't been set?

    Hi All,

For those who are facing Inspire Crash issues, There are couple of things to investigate.

    1. See if the file missing is being blocked by Anti-virus of your system or somehow getting black listed by security system. Your IT can help to find out through log files.
    2. Try to update remaining crucial windows updates and update your graphics drivers to latest before Installing Inspire.
    3. If your system CPU/Graphics Hardware is outdated and does not support Vulkan graphical functionality, it will likely to be crashed.
    4. Consider doing clean installation of your graphics drivers. (Mentioned in below link)

    check this system requirements,

    @John Yang_22222 ,

Thanks for confirming. I can setup a quick meeting and we can try to troubleshoot over the call. Can you share your email ID with me so I can send you meeting invite?

Also, let me know your availability. I am located in Easter Time Zone.

    Hi Milan,

Unfortunately, the laptop PC is client's, not mine. I can't contact him at this moment and hard to setup remote access from his laptop in the near future. Is there any possible ways I can try by myself in the future.

Apart from these above steps I mentioned earlier, You can try couple more things.

    1. Uninstall all versions of Inspire Cast if present. Then re-install the latest version you are trying to access.
      1. Try to install Inspire cast in local drive if it was previously being installed on OneDrive/Network shared drive.
    2. Try deleteing .altair folder from C:\Users\username
