4-Wheel Steering model

Hello !

I am interesting in modelling full vehicle behavior on MotionView (v 2022). I built my vehicle model using Assembly Wizard. I noticed that only the classic front wheel steering model was available in the library. What if I wanted to model 4 wheel steering ? Would I need to modify the model myself to achieve it ? Or is there a clever way to save some time ?

Thanks a lot !

    Hi Samuel!

You are correct in that there isn't a rear steering assembly currently available through the Assembly Wizard. I would recommend duplicating the steering system currently in your assembly and then modifying it for your rear steering system:

    1. Create a new system in your assembly
    2. Copy all entities within the front steering system
    3. Right click on the new system and paste
    4. Modify entities (remove the steering column, move points, update attachments, etc.) until they function for your rear suspension system
    5. Create an expression that defines how much steering occurs in the rear system with respect to front steering wheel input, also likely with respect to vehicle speed.

    Hopefully this helps,

    Hi Samuel,

We also have a pre-built rear wheel steering example with the multibody model represented in MotionView and the control algorithm for the rear steer on Altair Activate & Compose.

You can have a look and download the model here Altair Exchange - Rear Wheel Steering Control of a Vehicle

    Hope this is helpfull,

    Spiros
