Hi all,

How to define damping for a dropping simulation? I found the kinetic energy can not decrease. May be no damping is defined I think.

Best Wishes

    Hi Roy,

Please go through Example 16 - Dummy Positioning (Explicit Solver) in the Help Menu which talks about different damping options in RADIOSS.

Dynamic Relaxation is a process that uses a damping concept to find the steady-state part of a dynamic solution to a transient response. Rayleigh damping can also be used to reduce the dynamic effects thereby find a steady-state response. In Rayleigh damping the dynamic loading is damped by introducing a damping matrix, proportional to the mass and stiffness matrix.

In general, the DR method is used for those problems which exhibit highly nonlinear geometric and material behavior and Rayleigh damping should be avoided in such situations.

Also check,  RADIOSS > RADIOSS Frequently Asked Questions: More Options:  How to use option /DYREL? which describes about dynamic relaxation.

    Hi George,

Thank you for the message. I'll try it.
