I would like to create a .hascii file that contains within it an association of elements with a category . I would like to create a plot in Hyperview that contains alphanumeric characters instead of numeric values:

I don't believe there is a way to contour anything value numeric values. However you should be able to use the Category Legend in HMPOST to assign values to a category. So you could use numeric values that correspond to your alpha numeric string and then use the category legend.
