How to get the same mesh on the inner surface of the shell and outer surface of the core, so that equivalence feature can be used to combine the meshes for fem study. I have attached the model below. Thanks!

I also trying to do this in Abaqus. In literature, people did it with Hypermesh or IA-FEmesh but there is no details about this modeling. Good question!

    Hi

Extract the faces of shell named component mesh by click on > Tool > faces ,Take only the inner surface of face by deleting or masking the other elements and create the TET mesh by these shell elements for core

Find the attached the video clip

    Hi Nishendra,

I saw your model and I also try to model from L1 to L5 for my studies. I have some models but I couldn't seperate them into shell and core parts as in your model. How do you model them as core and shell parts? Which program did you use for this?

    Hi Nishendra,

Thank you! In spaceclaim direct modeller,  I could form shell inner surfaces from my solid vertebra model by using shell offset. However, I couldn't export them as .iges files. Which format did you prefer to export them into Hypermesh? Could you help me with your experience about this situation, please?

For CAD format, you can export to STEP, IGES or Parasolid.

After I formed inner shell surfaces (facets) from my solid vertebra model by using shell offset  in spaceclaim direct modeller, spaceclaim serves .obj, .stl and etc. formats not .iges, .step or other cad formats. So, I couldn't load it into Hypermesh.

    Hey Guys! ,

I obtained the inner offset shell surface from Spaceclaim (Nishendra said before) as .stl format. Then, I converted it to .igs by using Geomagic Design X. Thus, I can transfer it into Hypermesh.

    Kind regards,

    Hi,

You can convert the shell to solid in Spaceclaim itself. Right click on your component in the model tree, and click convert to solid. Then you can export it in any of the cad format.
