I want to know how I can sepaerate design and non design space .I am having a single solid component and out of that single solid there are few areas that need not to be considered for optimization ,kindly tell me how to proceed for the optimization process. The geometry on which i am working on is a bit complex .The overall goal is to reduce mass of the component.

    Hi,

you may want to subdivide your geometry so that you have a component for your design space and a component for your non-design space. These two components should reference 2 different properties. The 'non-design property' (and thus all elements with this property) can then be used as your Design variable.

    Regards,

Thanks for your reply but i got stuck with dividing the solid ,i tried using solid edit function but it doesnt seems to work then i meshed the comple solid using solid mesh and tried seperating the elements but i am still not satisfied by the component as the mesh after separating is not that clean, kindly tell me some other trick or tip to proceed further

    Thanks & Regards image/emoticons/default_smile.png' alt=':)' srcset='/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x' width='20' height='20'>

Solid editing functionalities (e.g. trimming a solid) not working as expected is probably a model/geometry dependent issue. You may want to get in touch with your local Altair support representative to investigate further your particular geometry.

I fell u really no need to split solid. Just try to create a duplicate property and a new collector for non-design space. and move the ELEMENTS [aproximately] from non-design space to new collector. and allign the old property to design variable, so that non-design space wont disturb/contribute.
