Volume Fraction

Hi,

 

May i ask what is meant by volume fraction in topology optimisation? Have read a few responses but dont quite understand still. 

 

Why does it seem to be standard to use 30% vol frac?

 

Also, is there a minimum acceptable volume fraction?

    Hi,

     

    OptiStruct uses fraction of volume specified of total volume.  There is no minimum or maximum defaults but I think one has to use based on experience.

     

    So when the lower bound is set to 30% the solver takes minimum 30% of the original volume to optimize. If no upper bound is provided, solver may remove all material depending on design objective and constraints
