Very extensive optimization durations for every run

Hello,

I don't have a question concerning the setup of an optimization, but rather why one of my computers takes extremely long to finish an optimization.

I have a laptop with the Student Version of the HyperWorks Suite and a desktop PC with the full version. The laptop finishes optimizations way faster than the PC, although the PC has way better hardware. This doesn't make sense. I checked the CPU and RAM usage and both are only about 5 to 6 % in use, so theoretically there is more capacity.

Is there a setting in HyperMesh/ Optistruct, where the reason for this could be?

From both the out files I see the difference between start and end time is almost same.

For that optimization it was fine. However, the more complex the optimization is, the bigger is the difference. I had a run with a very thick part and with the Laptop it lasted about 30 minutes and with the PC I had to cancel the operation because it was running iteration 10 after about 2 hours.

Since I cancelled the operation, I could not send you that out file.

But the difference is definitely there.

Hi Kensei,

It is difficult to comment at this point. We need information about PC, Laptop, (RAM, ROM, OS etc..) and solver written files (.stat, .out, etc...)

Is the disk space same on both the machines?

Issue could be with scratch files...

Hello Prakash,

thank you for your response. In the mean time I was able to find the issue. My PC has been used by other people before and they left me with almost no space on the hard drive.

So, pretty simple solution.

Thank you for the update. Well my first suspect was RAM and ROM.
