Hello All,

 

in linear FEM, are the displacements in any generic structure the same value (except for the sign) for nodes where force loads are applied once in positive, and once in negative global directions? 

 

For instance, you apply 100N to a node and get 1mm of displacement, will you get (always, for any structure) -1mm of displacement for -100N?

 

I would bet on YES, but i'm not 100% sure

..

    Hi Florian,

     

    Yes, when the model is symmetry and there is no obstacles or BCs then as you said, it respects the linear relationship between loads and displacement.
