Analysing stepped lap joint
Halle everyone,,
I hope someone can help me with alysing a stepped joint.
I am currently trying to analyze this lap joint. But I believe that i am doing something wrong
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
I have created the lap joint as one laminate with 32 different plies. But i get the exact same results when I analyze this settup as when i do an analyze of a plate without an joint.
these are the result. left without a joint and right with the joint
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
Do i need to create sublaminates with an interface or is there something else?
kind regards,
Thomas Wirtz

Hi,
I've gone through the model and I see some elements are referenced in both the laminates which should write out an error.
Are you using the same model which you shared?

Hallo,
Read the comment i made

Hi,
I missed your comment,
So the error is with the element used in different laminates. I will update you soon on this.

Hello,
Thank you for the updated version. It helped me a lot. But now i ran into a different problem. I have been asked to simulate the same stepped joint with the same overlap length. but now with a gap at each step. The gap is filled with matrix. The same matrix used for the laminetes. So it should look a bit like this.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
I have created a model like this. But i can not get the interfaces correct. I keep getting Error 640
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
I hope you are able to give me some tips.
Thank you for your time
Kind regards

Hi Thomas,
The interface is not well designed and I see more than 4 interfaces. Is that correct?
